Want to Chat?

Sea Fern Farm is a working farm. We could talk endlessly about the farm, however; we pack our days with essential chores, projects, and tasks that are vital to our mission. There is always more work to be done than there are hours in the day.

For this reason, we ask that if you’d like to stop by and chat, schedule with us beforehand by email. We promise we’re approachable—at our scale, we just can’t be pulled away from our work without notice.

Sustainability. Stewardship.
Community.

Sea Fern Farm is a family owned and operated farm. Since 2025, Franny has been farming 1/2 an acre with the support of her parents Mark &Mary.

After a decade of farming on, and off, Whidbey Island, Franny has put down roots in the South End with the goal of stewarding the land and strengthening the local food system by providing high quality, nutrient dense produce directly to the community.

soil health

We utilize agroecological growing methods that minimize soil disturbance, protect soil organic matter, and prevent erosion. By investing in our soil we are able to improve productivity, water retention, and carbon sequestration.

biodiversity

We actively plant a variety of crops and cover-crops to encourage a diversity of organisms on the farm. This mimics natural ecosystems, breaking disease cycles and growing beneficial insect and microbe populations.

MICRO-scale

We operate at a small scale with limited land and resources, focusing on efficient systems and intensive growing methods to produce high quality produce for our neighborhood and broader Whidbey community.

Our Vision for a Better Food System On Whidbey Island

We believe a resilient local food economy begins with supporting small-scale local producers. By selling directly to our neighbors, we are ensuring access to fresh, sustainable food, while enhancing our regional ability to withstand environmental and economic uncertainty.

We prioritize selling our produce directly to our neighbors through our farm stand and the Whidbey Island Grown Food Hub, as well as to numerous other small businesses who embody the same ideals.

By building direct relationships, we bring people closer to the origins of their food.

Eat Where Local Food is Supported

Even if you can’t buy directly from our farm stand, you can still taste our produce across the island. Our impact is growing thanks to the support of local chefs and buyers with shared values.

Looking Forward, and Back.

Island farming is a beautiful sacrifice. Look back with us to recognize how far we’ve come.  After purchasing the land in Freeland November of 2024, we broke ground in spring of 2025 and reached full production by summer of 2025. Now in our second season, we look forward to continuing to optimize our systems and space to produce more food for our community.

We’ve come a long way, but we still have far to go.

Help us make locally grown produce accessible to you, and your neighbors.
